Alright, kinky ones. Gather round the cautionary campfire. We have a story for you and it isn’t what Ariel did on her Friday night.
Let’s talk about breath play, that thing that sounds kinda hot but can go from “ooh la la” to “oh no no” faster than you can say “safe word.”
Breath Play: Don’t Hold Your Breath (Literally!)
So, you’re at a BDSM club, and someone suggests a little breath play. Sounds edgy, right? Like some intense, forbidden fruit? WRONG.
Think of it less like a sexy scene from a movie and more like trying to juggle chainsaws while blindfolded.
Here’s why it’s a hard pass:
* Brain Goes “Bye-Bye”: Your brain needs oxygen, like, a lot. Cut that off, and you’re not going to get a fun head rush. You’re going to get lightheaded, pass out, or worse. Think of it like a power outage, but for your brain.
* The “Oops, I Did a Bad Thing” Factor: When someone’s oxygen-deprived, they can’t exactly yell “uncle.” Even with safe words, things can go south faster than a greased pig at a county fair. (Yeeehaww)
It’s really hard to monitor someones oxygen levels in real time in a club environment. And by really hard we mean absolutely fucking impossible.
* “Fun” Turns Frightening: What starts as a “thrill” can quickly turn into a medical emergency. And trust me, explaining to the paramedics that you were “just having a little fun” is not going to be your finest moment. It takes 3 seconds for a person to become unconscious after blood supply interruption.
* Clubs are not medical facilities: BDSM clubs are fun, but they are not hospitals. If something goes wrong, there may not be trained medical staff on hand to help.
Think of it this way:
Imagine your brain is a complicated office with hundreds of different departments all beavering away to make an efficient mind.
Then suddenly and without warning the power company just turns off the electricity to the entire building.
After a few seconds the lights come back on and everyone goes “Oooh how strange” and moves on right?
Well, no. Because that’s not how stuff works.
The entire building was just reset and shit is still trying to work itself out. The printers are offline. People are stuck in lifts. The coffee machine that Dave loves is halfway through dispensing a delicious hot mochalokachino and has now become a hot wet paperweight.
Gladys is stuck in the stationary cupboard as the locks reset, and poor Steve, the mail delivery guy is at the bottom of a flight of stairs wondering why the lights went out, and what to do with his new bendy left arm.
This is what actually happens to a brain when the lights go out. Sometimes it’s not even possible to detect damage until much later.
Bottom line:
Breath play is not a game. It’s dangerous, unpredictable, and frankly, not worth the risk.
There are plenty of other ways to explore your kinky side that don’t involve playing Russian roulette with your oxygen supply.
So, keep your breath where it belongs: in your lungs.

As a quick but serious demo, here is a typical timeline of the effects of being choked while fucking. I’m not going to water it down so if your squeamish look away now.
Did you know It can take less than 3 seconds to fuck someone up forever.
Ok. Back to the timeline and what happens to the body during the first 15 seconds of strangulation.
Count to 15 with me……….
1. Hands on throat. It takes just 4.9lbs of pressure to restrict and cut off the jugular or carotid arteries. it takes just a few pounds more to crush the bones of the larynx.
2.
3. Three seconds in and the brain is starved of oxygen. It will begin shutting down. Vision loss happens and internal pressure builds up. The brain signals the heart do speed up to try to compensate for lack of oxygen.
4.
5. Around now unconsciousnes begins. Small capillaries in the eyes and brain can start to rupture. If still conscious a raging headache can begin.
6.
7. Your body will introduce chemicals to fight deoxigenation. You will feel weaker and loose control of extremities.
8.
9. As the oxygen levels in your blood start to fall, your heart rate will slow to around a quarter if what it was.
10. By the time you get to here the brain is unconscious. The heart is starved of oxygen and starts to “flutter” it’s not cute. It defibulation. A potential heart attack. Your blood becomes acidic and your lips turn blue.
We haven’t even reached 11 yet.
11. The brain will most likely be damaged at this point. Outlying cells in the brain will begin to die. Quickly.
12. Tingling in the hands and feet as the nerves continue to die. At this point the risk of cardiac arrest is much much greater. As the heart continues to send emergency “pulse signals” to keep it going it can become overwhelmed and start to fibulate no longer being able to find a steady beat.
13 seconds. Symptoms increase. Internal pressure can cause capillaries in the eyes and ears to rupture. Leading to permanent sight or hearing loss.
14. Ph levels cause extreme pain across the entire body. At this point blood is pooling in the brain. It is absolutely certain that permanent damage to the brain and heart has occurred.
15. In some cases at this point autonomous recovery can be impossible. And unchecked or without immediate competent first aid the victim can succumb. The body can loose control of its major functions and defecation and urination can occur.
Be careful; folks, there are reason not to fuck about with this shit.
